Earlier this year, I had the honour of working with SARAH & SEBASTIAN on Love Letters — a series of thought-provoking poems meditating on the different facets of love, in honour of Valentine’s Day. As part of this series, ‘Dear Romance’ emerged an ode to intimate love.

DEAR ROMANCE
Have you stopped to smile at the clouds lately
and admired the colour of diamonds?
.
Light refraction,
bouncing warmth about the waking sky.
.
Like a kiss of the morning,
or the smell of fresh coffee.
.
Secret love letters,
scrawled in shopping lists on open envelopes.
.
Where do you go when you dream of romance?
.
The perfume of the first flower
or warmth of a midnight whisper.
.
Everyday moments, gilded with emotion.
.
Have you stopped to smile at the roses lately?
Or admired the colour of rubies—
rich, red, romance.
.
A pause.
For deep within those ruby depths,
reflections of me meet reflections of you.
