CHANEL Fall-Winter 2026 Haute Couture was a whimsical dream, featuring adornment of magical proportions. Unfolding in Paris earlier this week, the collection was a testament to the artisans of the House and to the unparalleled vision of Matthieu Blazy — who filled the Grand Palais with giant beanstalks and oversized flowers in a nod to the fairytales he had discovered in Coco’s apartment.
The occasion was underscored by a fittingly transportive soundtrack that oscillated between Lord of the Rings flute music and romantic pop hits such as ‘Kiss Me’. The literary references continued on with an artistic nod to the loveable Scarecrow from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I particularly appreciated the raffia, which was crafted to resemble straw. And the blue tweed, which was woven by Lesage to resemble denim.
The flou of soft pleats and the flippy movement of miniskirt silhouettes added to the magic, while the accessories ranged from totally pared back to dramatically layered — taking the form of drapey chain belts and embellished footwear.
Many of the looks felt as though they had accessories built into the garments themselves, with bejewelled necklines and pearls suspended from openwork knits. Meanwhile unique jewelled buttons added an extra touch of storytelling, tracing the span of a sunflower’s life — from seed to bud, and then to bloom.
As is always the case with Matthieu Blazy’s collections, there was more than meets the eye with these couture looks. ‘Inside the garments, personal details — to-do lists, initials — reveal the woman wearing them,’ explains the House. ‘Each silhouette unfolds like a story, thanks to the savoir-faire of the Haute Couture ateliers.’
